The most valuable lesson I have ever learned is the fact that you cannot give up on something simply because you are not exactly the best at the certain task. Is is always great to go through with what your intentions were in the first place.

Who am I?
First of all, I am 13 year old Denise Powell, Miss Tougaloo Outstanding Teen. For my talent, I will be playing the instrumentalist piece "Diamonds Are Forever" on the viola. I started playing the viola at the age of 10 in the CASA program in my elementary school. I now play the viola in the MS Youth Symphony Orchestra, and we recently went to Universal Studios and competed in the "Musicfest Orlando" competition and won first place. I also began playing the clarinet this year, in the 8th grade, in the school band at St. Joesph Catholic School. We have a lot of fun, and we are actually beginning to bond as if we are a family.

I have always been athletic, and I enjoy playing basketball, soccer, softball, cross-country, track, and pretty much anything you can have fun with while you exercise. I also made Varsity on the Softball and Track team this year in the 8th grade. My favorite food is pizza. We have it almost every weak at school. I guess you could say its kind of grown on me.

I started taking dance last year when I was 12, and I really like the experience. My favorite type of dance is Hip-Hop. My favorite movie happens to be "Step Up." Everything else kind of sums itself up. I am in this pageant to make friends, have fun, and do the best I can.

Tell us about your platform.
My platform is childhood obesity. I chose this platform, because I want to give other children the same oppurtunity I had by making friends and staying in shape in local sports. My mother is a doctor, and she has been a great influence on my objectives on making my fellow peers better people.

I hope this pageant will help me accomplish my goals. Its a wonderful experience, and it gives me a wonderful chance to follow up on what I plan to achieve.
