Singing, acting, dancing, playing basketball, running, mentoring, school debating, and meeting new people. Back to Top What makes you special and unique? Something that makes me special and unique is my family. I live in a biracial family. My father is Cuban. Cuban Dictator, Fidel Castro, took my family's home and turned it into a hospital. My family then fled to Miami, FL. to start a new and better life. I am currently enrolled in Spanish III to learn more about my family's language, heritage, and traditions. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? Being a competitive person I have learned that everything doesn't always come easy. My basketball coach once said "There are no shortcuts to anyplace worth going." These wise words meant to me that you can't expect to succeed if you only put in fifty percent of effort. One hundred and ten percent of true, blood, tears, and a lot of heart will get you so much farther in life and in the end it will definitely be worth it. Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. One thing I know I could absolutely never live without is prayer. As a Christian, I have been taught that when in doubt always pray. God is the one person that is always there. He is my great listener and protector. My faith is very important to me and I know prayer is the one thing I could never live without. Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? One very valuable lesson I have learned is that you will never know what your capable of doing until you try. God has given everyone talents, but we honestly don't know what we could be good at if we don't try new things. The lesson I have learned is to not be scared to attempt something new. Sometimes we can even impress ourselves with undiscovered talents. Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? My most valued role model other than my mother is my aunt. She is a very busy wife, mother, and friend. She graduated from Blue Mountain College on a basketball scholarship when women's athletics were just being acknowledged. She has two very active children and she always manages to see me in my activities as well as theirs. She is simply a down-to-earth, Christian person that I trust and love. We can relate to each other so much. She is constantly giving me great advice and I appreciate her not only as an aunt but as one of my best friends. She is definitley my most valued role model. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? My most unexpected moment was hearing my name being called out on the starting line up for my high school basketball team. The majority of my teammates have been playing basketball since they could walk. Eleven years behind didn't stop me in seventh grade, I worked very hard to be in the position I am in today. Matter of fact, I'm still not done. I am working hard so I can hear my name being called out again next season. Back to Top What is your workout routine? My daily workout routine consists of basketball. Lifting weights, running, and playing this sport is the workout my body receives every single day. Oh, and I love two-a-day practices too! Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? My biggest accomplishment to date was helping implement a fine arts program for 5th and 6th graders. On every Wednesday I work with about forty students. We sing, act, and have devotions together. I am personally proud of myself for giving children another opportunity to showcase their talents at this workshop in Pontotoc. Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever received? The best compliment I have ever received came from one of my teachers. I was told that I am a true person. I never try to be anything other than myself. This is absolutely my favorite compliment! Back to Top What is your secret wish? This really is no secret, but my wish is to travel to Cuba. I would like to have knowledge of my family's ancestors and history. Apart of me lies there and I pray that one day I will have the opportunity to personally see and learn about myself in a place my family once called "Home." Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? My most embarrassing moment occured in seventh grade. We were learening about the Great Depression and the stock markets. I am definitely not a shy person and I'm not scared to ask questons. That day I asked my teacher, "How many people died when the stock market crashed?" He gave me the strangest look and immediately wrote my name on the board. He responded with a grin and replied, "Ana Lauren, you are officially my most possible genius." Then the class started laughing. After school I came home and asked my mother, "How many people died when the stock market crashed?" Once again I was laughed at, but was told that the building didn't actually fall. I now think twice before raising my hand to ask a question. Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? My biggest guilty pleasure is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream. Even the name of it makes my mouth water. It is so hard to resist this, but I know I can't always have it. If it was possible for me to eat it everyday, I would! Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? This may seem childish, but my favorite movie of all time is Beauty and the Beast. Honestly I am not really sure why it caught my eye when I was younger. I can remember waking up every morning arguing with my mother about my dress, if it didn't spin just right, I would NOT wear it! Belle was my idol until I figured out she was an animation. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? For relaxation I absolutely love laying by the pool or beach. There is nothing better for a girl to just lay back, relax, and work on a tan all at once. For recreation I play basketball. This is my favorite sport of all time. Playing basketball, running, and even lifting weights is the action my body receives every single day. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? I have traveled alot of places in my life. Fifteen countries and four continents, but one place I would love to visit is Australia. I enjoy laying on the beach and it is said that Australia has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Sydney, Australia is one place I hope to have the opportunity to visit one day. Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? Mississippi is a wonderful state with a big heart. We as a state have been through alot and I am so proud to say that I'm a Mississippi girl. One of the best things about Mississippi to me is that we're the most giving state to charities. We contribute so much and because of this I personally think we are known for our outstanding hospitality. Mississippi is amazing and I love that it is my home. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? Ten years from now I hope to be teaching in my hometown of Pontotoc. I plan to fund my education through basketball to hopefully pursue a degree in Education. Maybe by this time I will have found my future spouse and start to settle down as a family. Back to Top What extracurricular activities do you participate in? PHS Spanish Club President, Student Council Treasurer, Class Vice-President, FEA, FBLA, PHS Basketball, PHS Diamond Girl, and Pontotoc Elementary Mentor. Back to Top Who am I? I am Ana Lauren Rosado and I'm seventeen years old. I live in Pontotoc and attend Pontotoc High School where I am active in many clubs and sports. Like every other teenager, I love to just have fun! I mentor twice a week in my community and enjoy every minute of it. I am very passionate about children. I truly love working with them. I hope to fund my education through basketball and earn a degree in Elementary Education.
If I am given the opportunity to be the next Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen, I hope to inspire other teenagers to encourage and spend time with mentally challenged children and teens. The Special Olympics is an organization I plan to use to promote my platform. Building Self-Esteem in Mentally Challenged Children and Teens doesn't have to be done by spending hours with someone. It can be as easy as a smile. We all should learn that we all are equally different physically, spiritually, and emotionally and that is okay.
Tell us about your platform.
My friend, Mary Beth, has had trouble feeling like a "normal" teenager until she was honored with such rewards. This year she participated in the Special Olympics. This organization has enlightened many children, teens, and adults. The program taught Mary Beth that we don't have to be "normal" to fit in or be cool. Being yourself is the way we all should be. To succeed in the Special Olympics we don't have to have the athletic ability, just the heart. I want to encourage my fellow peers to open their eyes and seek for interest in their local Special Olympics or the mentally challenged, simply by communication or volunteerism.
