I enjoy reading, youth group, tennis, cross-country, writing, cooking, hanging out with friends, and swimming. Back to Top What makes you special and unique? God has made me special and unique in several ways. He has given me many artistic and languistic talents. I have been told that I am goal-oriented, responsible, organized, and have good time-management skills. He has also made me a well-rounded girl, and that is what makes me truly unique. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? The best advice I have ever received was to plan ahead. I wouldn't be as far along on my career path if my mother had not told me to think of the future. Meeting one goal always leads me to achieving another. Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. There are three things I cannot live without: God, my Bible, and my church. I would be so lost without these things. Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? During my second year of piano, I gave up practicing. One day, I broke down and cried because I thought I would never be able to play the piano right. My teacher told me she would not teach someone who did not want to be taught. I went home sobbing. Later, I called my teacher and apologized. Since then, I have learned the value of practicing and just how far it can take me. I have now taken piano for five years. Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? My most valued role model is my little brother Zac(14). I've always wished I could be as daring and brave as he is. He is not afraid to ride a unicycle or run up a tree and flip over. Peer pressure is not a factor in his mind; he is able to deflect it with his quick wit. He never worries about anything, something I have never been able to do. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? I never expected to fail my written driver's license test the first time. I mean, why do we need to know the speed of a school bus and the fine for a bad check? Back to Top What is your workout routine? Eat healthy and play sports regularly! Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? In 2004,I was invited to be a Student Ambassador to Europe throught the People to People Organization (founded by President Eisenhower). We went to four countries: France, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. It was an honor to be invited and a great vote of confidence from my parents. I still keep in touch with my Austrian homestay friend, Nicky. It was so much fun! Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever received? A friend of the family once told me that I would make a great wife one day. Back to Top What is your secret wish? I'm not telling! It's a SECRET!!! Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? My family and I were innertubing down a river in Texas. When we were all supposed to get on shore, I drifted away from the group. Alone. In an innertube. I was afraid I was going to be swept downstream by the "fast" current. My grandfather (who has emphysema) slid off his tube to save me. I then realized the "mighty river" was actually about a foot deep. Real brave right? Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? I love to eat hot chocolate mix dry. It's chocolate sugar after all! Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? Two of my favorite movies are "Forrest Gump" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". I love a good comedy and a little bit of mischief. These two are hilarious! Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? I love to read books, or write poems; swim, take long, hot baths, play a sport such as tennis and kickball; eat chocolate, play my piano, and go to church youth activities. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? I would love to go back to Austria and see my friend again. The air is so fresh and the scenery is gorgeous there. Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? I love my church and the way people in our state are hospitable, friendly, and welcoming. It's like one big happy family. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? Finishing vet school of course! Class of 2017! Back to Top What extracurricular activities do you participate in? My extracurricular activities include tennis, piano, church, volunteering at the library, and going places with friends. Back to Top Who am I? I felt I could better express myself with a poem.

Fifteen, freshman, who am I? Tell us about your platform. Therefore, reading was an obvious choice for my platform. I named my "program" Developing Reading Education Around Mississippi (DREAM). My highest goal for this program is to teach young children how to enjoy and love to read. Because it could make a huge difference in their futures. Did you know: * 30% of adults in our state cannot read well enough to fill out a job application? * Mississippi has the third highest illiteracy rate in the country? * The U.S. Department of Education says,"...40 million Americans, 16 and older, possess what are called 'Level I' reading and writing skills. This means that they can sign their name, but can't understand such basics as the istructions for programming a VCR..."?
Sad, right? I really want those stats to change, especially in my home state. To do this, I have been volunteering at my local library, reading to four-year olds in my school, collecting books for the coast, and reading to young children at church. I have also promoted National Library Week and will promote our summer library program through a city publication that reaches 2,400 people. When little faces light up while I'm storytelling, I feel as though I am making a difference.
