What are your Hobbies? singing, being on the Internet, painting, cheerleading, hunting, swimming, white-water rafting, going to church, watching Reba and America's Next Top Model re-runs Back to Top What makes you special and unique? My independence is one thing that makes me unique from others. I don't let the decisions of others affect my thoughts and actions, and I am always looking for a way to set myself apart from my peers. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? Jeremiah 29:11 says, "'For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" I am comforted by this verse, and I'll always know that I don't have to worry about my future, because I know that God has everything planned out for me. Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. Actually, I have two things I couldn't live without: my cell phone and my laptop. Without my phone, I could never keep up with my day-to-day activities on my calendar, or keep in touch with my family and friends. I'm always on the computer, and it usually goes with me if I'm away for a long amount of time. I especially couldn't live without the Internet on my computer because I'm addicted to Facebook. Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? "Never underestimate the power of prayer." I've witnessed many examples of relatives and friends who have been changed by prayer. I am a firm believer in praying to the Lord for comfort, guidance, and health. As the Bible says, "Ask and you shall receive." Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? I have two people for my role model. I couldn't make it without my parents. No matter what it is, they always support me one hundred and ten percent. They never miss a cheerleading competition, a pageant, or even a local talent competition. Also, they are very proud of my accomplishments, and they always offer constructive criticism. Without their love and support, I would not be competing in the Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen Pageant. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? I absolutely love surprises. For my fifteenth birthday, my parents threw me a surprise birthday party at church. On that Sunday, I had planned to have dinner with my family and a few friends. I was worried all day that I wouldn't have time to come home from my grandmother's house and get ready in time for dinner at my favorite restaurant. When I arrived home, I got ready and Mom said we had to stop by the church for something. I was completely oblivious, and when I walked into my church's gym, all of my friends and family were waiting for me, the birthday girl, to arrive. To make it even more of a surprise, my now-boyfriend came, and we're still together to this day. It was definitely unexpected. Back to Top What is your workout routine? Three to four days a week I work out for about an hour a day. I start with cardio (running, riding a bike, and the Stairmaster), and then I do light weight training. Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? My biggest accomplishment to date is being able to compete in the Miss Mississippi's Oustanding Teen Pageant for a second time. I did not expect to compete in a state-wide pageant against amazingly talented girls. I will also never forget the opportunity I had to be in the first class of Mississippi's inaugural Outstanding Teen pageant. Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever received? Many people compliment me on my smile, and others tell me that I have pretty teeth. Not only do people say they love my smile, but they also say it makes them feel better after a difficult day. Back to Top What is your secret wish? If I told you, it wouldn't be a secret anymore! However, I dream of owning my own beach house on a private beach. I could go to the beach anytime, and it would be a perfect relaxation spot for me and my friends. Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? My most embarassing moment happened in an automatic carwash. When the machine finished washing my car, the exit button flashed for me to drive out slowly. I drive a VW Beetle, and it doesn't have very much traction on the tires, so when I pushed the gas, the wheels got stuck on the tire props. My wheels continued to spin, but my car and I were going nowhere. I stopped, backed up, and tried it again. To my dismay, I still went nowhere. Finally, I hit the gas and my car sped out of the carwash. Although few people saw it, I was still embarrassed for myself, and I fear getting my car washed in an automatic machine. Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? I love to watch marathons of America's Next Top Model. I have watched nearly every episode, and I love to see the end result of the spectacular photo shoots. Even though I already know the season's winner, it's still fun to see the drama unfold while Tyra tries to find the nation's newest supermodel. Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? Again, I can't choose just one favorite. First, I love Sweet Home Alabama. Reese Witherspoon has always been a favorite of mine, and I love her role as Melanie Carmichael/Smooter in this movie. It's full of humor and romance, and I love the crazy conversations that she and her husband, Jake, have in the movie. Plus, the movie is set in our neighboring state, Alabama. Also, I will always love 8 Seconds. This movie combines several themes, (humor, romance, and tragedy) all in one. I also love the fact that it is a true story of bull-rider Lane Frost who died while riding. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? I love to cheer for fun. My squad never has a dull moment when we're together, and I'll always cherish the crazy memories we made while we cheered. I love to tan in the tanning bed. It's very relaxing because I'm by myself and it leaves me with time to think and listen to music, which is another relaxation method for me. I also love to be outdoors. I love mud-riding on four-wheelers, fishing, and hunting. I'm truly a Southern girl. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? Costa Rica is my ultimate dream vacation. I recently completed a project for Spanish class where I had to plan a vacation to a Spanish-speaking country. After much research, this country is absolutely beautiful, and I hope I have the opportunity to experience firsthand Costa Rica's culture and landscape. Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? Mississippi has always been a very hospitable, caring state. No matter where a Mississippi native travels, they are always welcomed back with open arms and wonderful Southern food. Our hospitality was also evident when Hurricane Katrina hit. The people of our state wasted no time in helping each other heal and rebuild after the disaster that struck less than two years ago. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? Only God knows the plans for my life. However, I hope to be a college graduate, starting my career in an accounting firm. I also would love to have a career in the music industry, so that I may showcase my love of singing. Back to Top What extracurricular activities do you participate in? I'm a cheerleader at my high school, and I am also a leader in my church's drama team, Lights and Actions. I'm a member of several clubs at school, such as Junior J's, Student Council, and Future Educators of America. Back to Top Who am I? I'm a typical teenager, wondering what my future holds. I'm passionate about singing, which started only 12 years ago as I sang with my daddy in church. I have many talents, and I know that I've been blessed to be able to use them to minister to people. I'm independent and I try not to let peer pressure affect me. I only want to live life to the fullest and have no regrets. I'm outgoing, I'm a very adventurous person, and no one can predict what I'll do next.
My weakness is food. I couldn't go one week without eating Mexican food for at least one meal. I'm also crazy about Flamin' Hot Cheetos. However, indulging in tasty food means I have to work it all off in the gym. I love staying in shape and I love cheerleading. I love driving my yellow VW Beetle, and I know it's something that makes me unique, because it fits my personality. I enjoy shopping on occasion, but I'd much rather be outdoors. I'm a crafty person, and I love to paint random pictures.
Tell us about your platform. True Love Waits was started in 1993 by a group of teenagers. Since then, over 20,000 young people have made a commitment to abstain from sex until the day of their marriage. The lesson that True Love Waits teaches has always been a part of my life. I believe that myself and our youth should save sex for marriage. Mississippi has one of the highest pregnancy rates in this country, and I believe our teenagers need to be educated on the benefits of True Love Waits. This program would definitely decrease the number of unplanned pregnancies among high school girls, and it would also spare many girls and guys the long-term effects of sexually transmitted diseases on their health.
The True Love Waits commitment statement reads: "Believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my future mate, and my future children to a lifetime of purity including sexual abstinence from this day until the day I enter a biblical marriage relationship."
