What makes you special and unique?
I was born the baby of the family, but now that my brother is away at college, I feel special because I am able to experience what life would be like as an only child. I've been able to see the best of both worlds. Not only do I have an older sibling to look up to and spend time with, but I have also been able to grow closer to my parents and spend more individual time with them.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
My grandfather was giving me a driving lesson in the pasture when we noticed we were approaching a huge rut filled with water. His advice was "The best time to get through a mud puddle is before you get there." As I thought about this, I realized the depth of his statement. The best time to prepare for hardships is before they come.

Name one thing you cannot live without.
I know for a fact that I would not be able to live without my family. They are my support group and are always there for me, no matter how badly I mess up or how well I have done. Their love is unconditional and everyone needs that kind of love in their life.

What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned?
In elementary school, I raised ducks as pets. One duck was attacked by a dog and had to have his wing amputated. I'm sure life as a duck with one wing was hard but he seemed content just being alive. I feel that my parents intended for me to learn responsibility through raising them, but I also learned to value perseverance through the struggles of Uno, the one-winged duck.

Who is your most valued role model and why?
My brother, Shad, is my most valued role model. He has always been very intelligent and driven, and I admire him for that. He always has time to sit down and listen to me about anything that is going on in my life, whether it be good or bad. He makes me want to be the best I can be.

What was your most unexpected moment?
While on a trip to Mexico this spring break, my family and I were watching several local dancers in a courtyard. They were all doing the salsa and having fun when one of the men pulled me from the crowd and included me in the entertainment. I had no idea how to salsa but enjoyed trying.

What is your workout routine?
I love to dance. I am a member of our high school showchoir, and our dances and rehearsals are always physically demanding. I personally attend clogging classes which also keep me in shape. Dancing is a great way to have fun and stay fit.

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?
Last year, I organized and ran my own campaign for State Junior Beta Vice President. It involved writing and directing a skit, presenting a speech, and campaigning at the convention rallies. It was a lot of work but all worth it in the end. After winning, I was able to represent Mississippi this past year in national meetings in North Carolina and at State convention.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?
To prove that people watch you even when you don't think they are, my middle school principal once said that he appreciated my good grades and hard work, but even more so, appreciated my sweet spirit. It made me feel good to know that someone like him would make an effort to pass on a compliment.

What is your secret wish?
Because I love dancing and enjoy watching Dancing With the Stars, my secret wish is to be a ballroom dancer. I love the costumes and the grace and beauty of the many different dance styles.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
Some people say that I took the phrase "break a leg" literally when I fell on stage at a showchoir performance my seventh grade year. We were changing positions in the middle of a song and I tripped and slid underneath the riser. I tried my best to recover as gracefully as possible but it was still really embarrassing.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
My biggest guilty pleasure would have to be listening to Celine Dion's music. Some of the lyrics are pretty corny and most of my friends tease me about it, but for some reason, I still have some of her music on my iPod.

What is your favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie is West Side Story. I like it because it puts the classic story of Romeo and Juliet in a somewhat modern setting. I also like the way the authors presented it as a musical.

What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation?
I enjoy watching movies in my spare time. I watch everything from 80s chick flicks to movies based on historical events. Its often hard to find time in my busy schedule to be able to relax, but when I do, I enjoy nothing more than curling up on the couch with a good movie and some of Mom's brownies.

What would be your dream vacation or destination?
My dream vacation would be a trip to Italy. I have always been interested in Pompeii and would love to visit it someday. I would also like to take a gondola ride down the canals in Venice.

What do you like best about the state of Mississippi?
To quote a cliche, I believe that Mississippi truly is the hospitality state. Every day, I meet people who prove this to me with everything they do. Kind actions do not go unnoticed, even if it is just a smile to a passing stranger. There is no where else on Earth where you can find good old southern hospitality like you can in Mississippi.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I hope to be finishing my education in some field of medicine. I have thought of many different areas of specialization to pursue. Currently my interest is in the area of neonatal care. I love babies and have a friend who works in the NICU at The University Medical Center in Jackson. Her work seems very rewarding.

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?
I am in our high school showchoir, Future Business Leaders of America, Teenage Republicans, Key Club, Beta Club, and Red Cross Youth. I also participated in our school's first drama production and am involved in community theatre.

Who am I?
I am the fifteen year old daughter of Bob and Emily White of Sandersville. I have one brother, Shad, who is a senior at Ole Miss. I will be a rising sophomore at Northeast Jones High School where I am a member of Gold Horizons, our co-ed showchoir. School is extremely important to me because I know it is the key to my future. I am interested in anything related to math and science and have had many teachers who have influenced me to consider a career in the medical field.

If I had to describe myself, I would say I am organized, self motivated, and confident in who I am. Laughter truly is the best medicine and I enjoy other people with a great sense of humor. Some of the joys of my life are music and dancing. I also enjoy being able to communicate with others through public speaking. I am looking forward to a trip to national Future Business Leaders of America convention in Chicago this summer, where I will represent Mississippi in the public speaking event.

I also enjoy acting in productions at our local community theatre. I have played everything from Cruella Devil in 101 Dalmatians to The Tinman in The Wizard of Oz. Performing on stage is one of my passions and it is a fulfilling experience for me.

Tell us about your platform.
My platform is Voter Apathy Among Young People in America. I believe that government plays a major role in everyones' lives whether they realize it or not. Young people should realize the importance of their input into government now because it will impact our future. Education is the key to motivation. In order to draw interest from young people, they must be informed on the issues, candidates, and the political process.

I belong to our school's Teenage Republican group (TARS). I am excited that this year is an election year and that I will be able to learn about the candidates and their views on issues facing us today. The best learning tool is service, because volunteers are provided direct exposure to the views of the candidates. We have already started the process of meeting local candidates and assisting them in their campaigns. Our TARS group plans to stage a mock election as an awareness tool to help educate students at our school.

I believe that this issue merits my time and effort. Adults can influence but young people need to step up and become leaders in this important cause. With commitment, we can turn voter apathy into voter action.
