Decorating, organizing spaces, traveling, designing/drawing clothing and accessories, and shoe shopping. I also enjoy shopping for anything different or unusual. Back to Top What makes you special and unique? I am kind, honest, and caring. Unfortunately, these are qualities that have become so hard to find. I am unique because I have the abilities of putting others at ease, connecting my peers of different social groups to one another, and reaching out to my peers as individuals. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? Always sleep on major decisions; You can usually see things from a different perspective the next day, after a good night's sleep. A decision that may have seemed difficult seems so simple in the morning! Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. Prayer, because without prayer it is difficult to find direction. Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? The most valuable lesson I have ever learned is to always be myself. Through this, people can see who I really am. Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? Laura Bush is my most valued role model. She has the qualities and character that I admire in a woman. She is confident, caring, intelligent, and strong. She has a wonderful sense of humor and sets a good example. I respect her for supporting her husband both personally and as President without overshadowing him. She initiated the program "Helping America's Youth" which shows her commitment to helping young people. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? My most unexpected moment was seeing the devastation of Katrina for the first time. What I had seen on TV did not compare to what it was really like in person. Back to Top What is your workout routine? I start out by warming up on the bike, then completing my strength training with weights. After that, I do my cardiovascular exercises for endurance on the treadmill, elliptical, stairclimber, or one of the bikes for thirty minutes two to three times a week. Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? Maintaining my Honor Roll status throughout my school years. Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever received? The best compliment I have ever recieved is that I am a beautiful person on the inside. Back to Top What is your secret wish? My secret wish is to be financially independent early enough in life to be able to enjoy it. Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? Tripping over the same step in choir class for the fifth time in one day! Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? "Trying" different chocolates in the box until I find the one I really want, then not admitting I did it. Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? Dreamer is my favorite movie because it is an uplifting story of second chances, dreams, and family. The movie exhibits the characteristics of faith and determination. In today's society, it has become hard to find movies like this that have a positive influence on young people. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? I like to shop for cute outfits, go to the movies, text and talk to friends, draw, and eat at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I enjoy traveling, playing pool with my dad, swimming, and exercising at the healthplex. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? My dream vacation would be taking a cruise around all of the Hawaiian Islands to see the beautiful, tropical scenery. Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? Definitely the people. Mississippians have a special way of making you feel at home and welcomed. They come together to help people whenever they are needed. Hurricane Katrina was an excellent example of how the people came together during a crisis. Mississippians are warm, kind, hardworking, and strong people. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? In ten years, I see myself a college graduate, newly married, working in a profession I am degreed in. In my leisure time, I see myself traveling and spending time with friends and family. Back to Top What extracurricular activities do you participate in? I study piano, participate in pageants, and volunteer at Lovett Elementary School. I am a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church where I am active in Sunday School, senior high choir, CHAOS (Christ Holds All Our Students) on Wednesday nights, am a member of the youth leadership team, and help with the parent pager system on Sunday mornings. I recently started a book drive through my church to collect Christian children's books for Crestwood kids. Back to Top Who am I? At the core of who I am is a strong, honest, intelligent, and dedicated young woman. Honestly, the only reason I possess these qualities is because of my faith in Jesus Christ. He is my strength and carries me through life. I have an eye for style and am naturally creative. I prefer organization over clutter, and enjoy organizing any type of space. One of my dreams is to create a unique line of clothing or home decor. My favorite food is Mexican. One of my favorite pastimes is visiting with friends over chips and dip! I have a weakness for chocolate, hot fudge cake being my favorite. See's Candies have the absolute best chocolate candy! My personality is on the reserved side, but I also enjoy a good debate! I have a great sense of humor and love to use it to cheer people up. I am a loyal and honest friend and believe that in order to have a friend you must first be a friend.
It is important to me to have friends from different social groups. I try to get to know people as individuals. I believe everyone has self worth, good qualities, and a story to tell. Setting a good example, encouraging others, and bringing people together are some of the ways I show others I care about them.
Tell us about your platform. While volunteering, I get a first hand look at the behavior challenges our youth are faced with. I feel a sense of responsibility to my younger peers, and am not content to sit back and complain about our youth. A solution to this problem requires action, which means actually "doing" something to help our youth. It is vitally important we remember that the youth of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. As the leader of the Helping America's Youth effort, Mrs. Laura Bush is highlighting programs that are making a difference with our young people. Research has shown that supportive relationships are vital to the well-being of a young person. By getting involved in the lives of youth in their community, coaches, mentors, clergy, teachers, neighbors, and many others help youth make better choices that lead to healthier, more successful lives.
There are many more reasons to volunteer, some of which include meeting new people, constructive use of free time, work experience, enhancing college transcripts, and gaining a new perspective by helping those in need. Regardless of the reason, volunteering is a way to help your community and give you a feeling of accomplishment. Together we can make a difference!
