Singing, playing with my dog, Sadie, playing the playstation with my dad, and hanging out with my friends and family. In my spare time I volunteer at the project attention center for underprivileged children in my town. Back to Top What makes you special and unique? I am a miracle child. My mother was not supposed to be able to have children and I just barely survived birth. And then there is my name--Lacona. That definitely makes me unique. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? I would have to say that would be to never give up. People quit all of the time and so many times I have wanted to just drop my head and quit, but someone told me to hold my head high and never give up, and now I am on my way to Vicksburg for the Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen Pageant. Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. As a teenager that would be my cell phone haha. No really though, I couldn't live without the love and support of my family and friends. Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? The most valuable lesson I have ever learned would be that nothing ever comes easy. You have to work for what you want in life. Both of my parents are disabled and they do all they can for me but I have to do a lot for myself and I think it is a good thing that I learned that early in life. Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? My grandmother is my most valuable role model. When I was younger my grandmother took care of my mom and I both and I look up to her so much for the woman she is. I hope to one day be just as strong as she is. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? Well I'm not sure over all but the most recent one is when I was jumping on the trampoline with my boyfriend the other day and we were just talking when all of a sudden he picked me up and threw me over his shoulder so that I did a flip and landed on my back. Back to Top What is your workout routine? In the afternoons when the sun is going down everyday my dad and I ride our bicycles as least one mile to stay in shape. When we are unable to do that I go to the gym and run on a treadmill. Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? My biggest accomplishment up until right now would be winning Miss Alcorn County Outstanding Teen to go on to Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen. I have one a lot of things in life but nothing that has ever pleased everyone around as much as this honor has. Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever received? The best compliment I have ever received is being told that I am a good person. Other compliments are flattering but when someone says I am a good person, it lets me know that I have a positive impact on people and that is important to me. Back to Top What is your secret wish? If I told you, it wouldn't be a secret. No, just kidding. I know that it is silly but I really wish my mom could walk again. Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? My most embarrassing moment would have to be when I fell down the stairs at school in front of everyone but to top that off... when I was coming back up them I fell UP the stairs and to put the icing on the cake, my pants ripped. Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? When I was about seven, my first cousin (who was always like a sister) and I were fighting in the kitchen floor. When pushed me down and when she stood up and faced me I kicked her in the knee cap. It hurt her but I was glad of it. She made me mad. Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is Talladega Nights because it is so funny. I have an up beat personality. If it is not going to make me laugh I don't want to see it. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? I like to play the play station with my dad, play with my dog Sadie, go bowling, scrapbooking and most of all napping. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? My dream vacation would be taking a trip to Disney world. My mom loves Mickey Mouse and I would love to take her to see him. Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? I like the fact that Mississippi is small with little hardcore crime. I like that it is extremely friendly and that if you don't say yes ma'am and no ma'am it is disrespectful. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? In ten years I see my self working for a large pharmacy, such as Walgreen’s. I plan to just be finishing college or just barely out of college and settling down with a loving husband to start a family. Back to Top What extracurricular activities do you participate in? I am a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, The National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Yearbook Staff, and Who's Who Among All American High School Students. Back to Top Who am I? I am the daughter of Michele and Michael Edgar and the granddaughter of Peggy and Jackie Grimes and Barbara LeMoine. I am a junior at Kossuth High School. My favorite foods are pizza, pickles, and popcorn. I love Walt Disney Movies. I have a fear of clowns. I used to cheer and play fast pitch softball but was unable to when I tore my rotator cuff in my shoulder and had to have surgery. I am fun loving, small town girl. If it is not fun, I am not interested. Back to Top Tell us about your platform. My platform is "Impacting the Lives of People with Disabilities." I chose this platform because I have to disabled parents. My mother is physically disabled. She is bound in a wheelchair. We go and have gone many places where it is as if she is discriminated against because of her disability. That breaks my heart and hurts her feelings terribly. Also, I go to school with mentally disabled children that have no friends because of their disability.
I chose this topic because I want to make a difference for the disabled people. I want to show everyone that they are just like us. I want a fair way to go for the underprivileged people. I am now taking the time out to bond with the mentally disabled children in my school. I want to know where they stand and show them that they should never give up on life no matter what people say. I am also babysitting a physically and mentally disabled child in my church community. His name is Tyler. He has a feeding tube and a trake. He cannot swallow anything at all and his only form of communication is through sign language.
