Back to Top What makes you special and unique? I have a corny since of humor, and it does not take much for me to get tickled. My friends even giggle at me because I will laugh at the smallest silliest things. I am often easily amused and I can find humor and fun in almost any situation whether it is riding an invisible horse to Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire, hunting over grown bugs, or singing in the frozen foods aisle. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? I have always heard the saying, "The grass is always greener on the other side", but I have also been told that no matter how bad you may think things are going for you there is always someone else who has it worse. So, I use this advice to always keep life in perspective and constantly thank God for all the many blessings he gives us. Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. Shopping! I just love to shop till I drop. It is so much fun and on some occasions can even be therapeutic Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? As you get older the old saying, “life isn’t fair” really seems more like a fact. There have been cases in my life and most everyone else’s, where you have worked hard for something, or done the right thing but instead it seems to back-fire, or not work out quite how you imagined. I have learned that in fact life isn’t fair, but instead a series of opportunities and obstacles which help to shape our lives. We must all realize that it is not what we gain in life that makes us who we are, but instead the way we utilize these situations to become the person we want to be. Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? My most valued and most missed role model is Mrs. Margaret Young. She was not only my teacher and annual staff advisor, but more importantly my “other mother” and friend. She was one of those people who radiated with a positive loving light which touched everyone around whether is was with advice or a lovely smile. She was always there for me and anyone else who might need a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. She never once complained about anything in life. I believe she was the most positive caring woman I have ever met. I hope that one day I will have made an impact on someone’s life as she did mine. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? One of my most unexpected moments to date was when I won a preliminary talent award on my first trip to Miss Mississippi. I have grown up singing and performing for people and being on the Miss Mississippi Stage, singing to my family and friends, was an honor, but when they called my name out for a preliminary talent winner I was dumbfounded. I was so ecstatic and it still seems surreal. Back to Top What is your workout routine? On a regular basis I just stay very busy, drink only water and lots of it, try to watch what I eat, and do about one to two hours of cardio a week. When swim suit season comes around and school slows up I really watch what I eat and do a minimum of one to two hours of cardio and one or more hours of weight training a day. Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? In high school I was a mentor for my area primary school. My senior year I won the largest mentor scholarship the state awarded. Not only was I excited to win scholarship money and happy my teachers where so proud of me, but more importantly I was proud of the impact I had made on those children’s lives. That is one of the many reasons I am passionate about youth volunteerism, and I feel one of the greatest accomplishments any person can make is to give to those around them. Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever recieved? I have been told many times in my life that I am a very happy and positive person. I’m usually always cheerful and upbeat. So, in an age where more often people are pessimistic rather than optimistic, I feel it is a huge compliment when someone says, “Corie always sees the good in things.” Back to Top What is your secret wish? Well I think most girls would agree it would be wonderful if we could look like Victoria Secret models but eat fried okra, dressing, fried green tomatoes, squash, peas and corn bread all the time. Yum. Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? While trying out for junior varsity cheerleader I was still trying to get use to the fact that I was now a Tiger instead of a Bulldog. So when it was finally my turn to try-out the only mascot that seemed to want to come out of my mouth was “Bulldogs”. By the second or third attempt I finally pronounced, “I’m sorry; I’m having a blonde day!” My friends still laugh about it to this day. Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? I can hardly go without my laptop and the internet. So I might be as some would say a “Facebook Addict”, but I just really enjoy communicating with my friends and it is always exciting to get a new message almost as great as getting something in the mail. Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? Dirty Dancing. It was my favorite movie as a young girl and still is. I think part of it is because I have always enjoyed dancing and it is pretty much the best dance movie of all time. As girl when I would watch it with my friends, I was slightly bossy, and would always make one of my friends be the boy when we would get a dancing partner. I also would stand on the top of my couch and reenact the log scene, and it also served as a height enhancer when I was lucky enough to be my daddy's dance partner. Plus girls, you have to admit Patrick Swayze is hot in that movie. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? When I get a free moment I like to just lie on the couch and watch Reba. It's so nice when you actually get a moment or a night to just be lazy and watch a movie with your family. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? I really would like to go to Australia and see the Great Barrier Reef. It seems so beautiful and I am sure it would be even more breath-taking in person. Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? I like the fact that children in other states use Mississippi as their counting method while playing hide-and-seek. But I love the fact that Mississippians seem to be a close knit family who work together to better themselves and their communities. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? In ten years I see myself possibly working as the head of Public Relations for a University or Non-profit Organization. Maybe if I have the time I will also have my own clothing boutique. Also, I see myself married, possibly expecting my first child, and teaching bible school. Back to Top Who am I? With Corie what you see is what you get. I love people, I love my country, and I love life. My friends and family play a vital role in my life, and I would not be where I am or who I am if it were not for their love and support. My friends and family know what a "goof-ball" I can be. I love to laugh, and if I ever get the giggles real bad, then there is no stopping me. I like dresses, string cheese, chewing gum, daisies, stuffed animals, and pajamas.
I think people should set high goals and reach for them. You must constantly press forward with out digressing to the past. If there is one thing I can not stand it is people who try to be cool by cursing or engaging in other demeaning actions. I believe that there are many more rewarding things to do in life than to participate in such activities. I just really like to have a good time and enjoy life, and I am not afraid of what others think. I am myself and if someone does not like me for that then, oh well.
Tell us about your platform. Youth Volunteerism reaps more benefits then will ever be understood. Children who volunteer make better grades, are less likely to participate in risky behaviors and more likely to become volunteers as adults. There is nothing but positive effects from Youth Volunteerism.
It is my hope; that I can give as many children as possible the opportunity to not only help their communities, state, and country; but ultimately themselves!
