I am “fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:14)”- a unique creation! I love to smile, I have a joyful personality, and I most enjoy the simple things in life-like spending time with the people I love and being in the great outdoors. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5-6 Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. My Chihuahua, Cookie Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? The most valuable lesson I have learned is to enjoy each moment as it comes, because the days pass by so quickly. Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? My most valued role model is my mom because she loves me unconditionally and provides continuous, unwavering support in every aspect of my life. She is an amazing example of a godly woman, and she gives to others so sacrificially, which is a quality that I not only admire, but also strive to emulate Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? Being crowned Miss Northeast 2007 Back to Top What is your workout routine? I do Pilates at least 5 days a week. I also enjoy walking and jogging, and I try to incorporate as much physical activity as possible into my everyday life by doing small things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator and walking wherever I go on campus. Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? One of my greatest accomplishments was being named the STAR Student of my high school graduating class. I took the ACT quite a few times, and persistence definitely pays off! Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever received? People tell me I'm a joy to be around because I'm always smiling. Back to Top What is your secret wish? After I become a practicing optometrist, it is my secret wish to own a huge farm! Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? I'll never tell- that would mean more embarrassment! Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? If there is one thing that I indulge in, it would have to be the combination of chocolate and peanut butter in everything from Reese’s to chocolate oatmeal cookies. There is always room in my diet for chocolate! Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is Little Women, because my mom and I have a tradition of watching it every year at Christmas. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? My absolute favorite recreational activity is going camping. I like lying in my hammock, building campfires, fishing, reading, and simply relaxing. It provides the perfect opportunity for slowing down from the fast pace of everyday life. I love being outdoors! Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? Australia and New Zealand Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? My favorite thing about Mississippi is simply the Southern charm. In my opinion, Mississippians are the most hospitable, warm and friendly people in this country. I love the strong ties among family and friends…and the good Southern food! Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? In ten years, I hope to be a practicing optometrist back in North Mississippi. I hope that I will have grown as a person and that I will be successful and satisfied in each area of my life. Back to Top Who am I? In the fall, I will be a junior at Mississippi State University. My college major is biological science with a pre-optometry emphasis, so I'm taking lots of upper level science classes and I have to spend lots of time studying! After I complete my undergraduate degree, I hope to attend optometry school at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. I am a very organized person, and I keep up with EVERYTHING in my planner. I'd be lost without it!
I think of myself as a very creative individual- I love taking pictures, journaling, reading, painting, making cards, and making music. Recently I have found another creative outlet that I absolutely love, and that is sewing my own clothing. My favorite part is being able to pick out fabrics and design things exactly the way I want them to be.
Tell us about your platform.
The overall goal of my platform is to educate people about the seriousness of diabetes and its risk factors. There are over six million Americans who have diabetes and do not even know it. That is a scary statistic, and it is my goal to change that. I also strive to emphasize the importance of preventative measures to combat diabetes, such as healthy diet and exercise. Diabetes is very treatable and even preventable, and I hope to motivate the public to see this and take action.
