What makes you special and unique?
I am the only red head in my family. I have been told that I am the apple of my mother's and grandfather's eye and they think I am almost perfect!

What is the best advice you have ever received?
"Don't judge a book by its cover." People are a lot like books. Both contain much more than meets the eye. The chapters of a book are like the chapters of a person's life and most of the time, they are page turners!

Name one thing you cannot live without.
My pink baby blanket that I have had since birth!

What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned?
My mom has always said, "Pretty is as pretty does," and "When life gives you scraps, make a quilt." These little sayings always remind me to treat others the way I would like to be treated, and to make the best of every situation.

Who is your most valued role model and why?
My grandfather is my most valued role model because he is truly the kindest and most genuine person I have ever known. He is very dear to me and I am so fortunate to have such a close relationship with him. He is an inspiration to me and I hope that my future husband possesses many of the qualities that my grandfather has.

What was your most unexpected moment?
In the third grade, I attended a fundraiser with my mother where an Elvis Impersonator was entertaining. He found out my name was Priscilla, came over to our table, and on bended knee serenaded me with "Love Me Tender." I was very embarrassed! Seven years later, I served as a Mississippi Senate Page for this singing senator!

What is your workout routine?
I love cardio and Pilates classes!

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?
I have implemented a tutoring and mentoring program at one of the local elementary schools in my college town. These children are in great need of additional one-on-one attention and they look forward to seeing the volunteers each day.

What is the best compliment you have ever recieved?
People say that my mom and I look "just alike." I feel this is a huge compliment because my mom is one of the most beautiful people I know, inside and out.

What is your secret wish?
My secret wish is to marry Prince William!

What was your most embarrassing moment?
A slip of the tongue with the onstage question the final night of the Mississippi Junior Miss Program was my most embarrassing moment. My question was, "Do you think the music industry has the right to prosecute people who download free music from the internet?" In my answer, I was trying to say prosecute, but instead I said prostitute! Live and learn from your mistakes.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

What is your favorite movie and why?
Steel Magnolias, because I feel it is a true depiction of Southern culture and how in times of joy or sadness, we are always supportive and incredibly giving to one another.

What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation?
I love to sleep and enjoy shopping and going to the movies with my friends.

What would be your dream vacation or destination?
My dream vacation would be to take a trip around the world! There are so many fascinating and beautiful places on our planet. I would like to have the opportunity to experience as many cultures as I can!

What do you like best about the state of Mississippi?
The creative spirit of Mississippians is truly inspiring. Our state has produced many prolific writers such as Eudora Welty, William Faulkner, Tennessee Williams, and John Grisham just to name a few, and has profoundly influenced the music world in all genres from country, opera to rock, having produced the King of the Blues and the King of Rock and Roll!

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I see myself working as a marketing consultant for an Italian company either in the United States or in Western Europe.

Who am I?
My name is Priscilla Katherine Williams. I am in International Business Major at the University of Alabama and I love it! Roll Tide! Family is one of the most important things to me. I am an only child and I was raised in a single parent household. My mom and I are best friends and I can tell her anything. God has blessed me in unimaginable ways and I am extremely thankful for everything and everyone in my life.

I love to read; my favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. One day, I will find my Mr. Darcy! Playing the piano is something I will always enjoy. Music is an incredible form of self-expression and it can be very powerful. I hope music programs continue to become a more integral part of school curriculum and funding for such programs becomes more important in the future.

Tidiness is definitely not one of my strongest traits. When I was younger, my mom often threatened to give everything in my room to Goodwill if I didn't clean it up. I have become better at this, but there is still room for improvement!

Tell us about your platform.
My platform is Literacy and I am very passionate about it. Mississippi has one of the highest illiteracy rates in the nation. Thirty percent of Mississippians are functionally illiterate. Eleanor Roosevelt said, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." Today's children are our future and the deserve to have us believe in them and help them to reach their dreams.

It is an incredible feeling to watch a child read a book by themselves for the first time and to know that I have helped them achieve this accomplishment. I have been very fortunate to have a mom who always took the time to read with me every night, no matter how tired she was. Not every child is as lucky as me. Sometimes, the only opportunity for children to read to somebody is at school. It is very hard for teachers to divide their time among 25 or more children everyday.

Volunteer tutors provide an invaluable service to the teachers and the students they are assisting. The extra one-on-one attention a volunteer can provide may make the difference in a student's future successes in school. Individualized instruction coupled with positive feedback goes a long way in building a child's self confidence. The encouragement the tutors provide is a key component to spark the child's excitement about learning and school. Once a child feels a sense of accomplishment, it serves as a catalyst to want more success and establish the determination and drive to achieve later successes in school and later in life.
