Watching and singing along with musicals, swimming, freshwater fishing, watching football, and coaching pee-wee cheerleaders Back to Top What makes you special and unique? Anyone who knows me would say that I have a great passion for life. In being a people person, I don't meet many strangers and if I do, I try my best to get to know them and make them feel at ease. Also, I feel as though I am an accomplished person because I have always set goals for myself and worked hard to achieve them. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? Someone once told me that success isn't measured by the amount of money someone makes or the status of their job. Instead, success is measured by the difference you make in someone else's life. I continually strive to be a successful person. Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. I definitely cannot live without my family. I am an only child, so I have a very special relationship with them. Growing up very close to everyone in my family has made me realize how grateful I am to have always had them with me, providing words of love and encouragement. Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? Because things do not always work out the way I've hoped, it has taught me to realize that sometimes in life when one door closes, it's because many more are soon to open for you. It may not always be the easiest path to take but in the end, it's the most rewarding. Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? Without a doubt, I would say that my mother is my most valued role model. I feel so thankful and truly believe that I am blessed because she has been such a great influence on my life. She not only cares for our family but for others as well. My mother has always handled the task of balancing her career and family with such grace. Not only is she my greatest supporter, she is also one of the most compassionate people I have ever known. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? While fishing in my grandparents' pond, I felt a sudden tug at my line. After quite a struggle, I honestly thought the fish had won the battle. Following one last effort at reeling this monster in, I pulled him onto the bank. I was so excited and proud that the prize I caught was a beautiful 5lb. bass!! Back to Top What is your workout routine? I enjoy swimming, running the bleachers at my local stadium, and taking an ab class. Not only do I rotate between these activities, but I also do an all-around workout at the gym. Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? I was selected to represent Mississippi on the NRECA Youth Leadership Council. This honor gave me the opportunity to speak at their regional conference. I have always enjoyed public speaking. When I was informed to have my speech prepared, I was never told where on the program I would speak or whom I would follow. To my surprise, I ended up giving my speech following that of the Mississippi State University President, and then I was followed by a nationally known publicist. Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever received? The best compliment I have ever received was given to me by a young Teen contestant. When asked who her role model was, she said my name in response. Her answer truly touched my heart because it reminded me that simple gestures can make such a huge impact on others. Back to Top What is your secret wish? My secret wish is actually a dream that I have had since I was a child. Being high in the air and the rush that comes from it, has always been fun to me. From roller coasters to parasailing to even bungee jumping, I love the thrill and excitement. Therefore, my secret wish is to go skydiving one day! Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? My very first week of college, I was still learning my way around campus. I guess I was also training to be a juggler because at any point in time you could see me walking to class while balancing a load of books. One day, my new skill came crashing down, literally. With my arms full of books and a project portfolio in my hand and not to forget the full book back bag on my back, I tried walking up the stairs into one of our busiest buildings and instead fell face forward. I guess that I found a new talent after all because not everyone falls going up stairs! Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? My biggest guilty pleasure would be a close race between cupcakes with lots of icing and any type of pasta. Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? Mary Poppins is my all-time favorite movie because even as a young child and still today, I am amazed by the charisma and poise that Julie Andrews had as that character. After watching that movie countless times, I still love singing along with her. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? As a college student, taking twenty-one hours, time is one of the biggest factors in my life. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and most of all, changing into a pair of my favorite pajamas and taking a nap when I get a chance. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? I would love to return to New York City and spend every waking moment watching performances on Broadway! Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? What I like best about Mississippi is its southern grace and charm that provide a welcoming atmosphere for all who visit. From intellectual to resourceful and talented, we, the people of Mississippi, create the "hometown feel" that is truly our state's greatest asset. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? I see myself working as a speech pathologist in a clinical setting and have completed my doctorate. Back to Top Who am I? I am a very outgoing person, and I would consider myself well-rounded. Actually if you did not know my family, you probably would not guess that I am an only child because I continue to strive to break that stereotype. I am a junior in the Honor's College at the University of Southern Mississippi. Being not only involved in school but also my community, has always been a priority in my life. In fact, my mother use to joke and say that if there was a sign up sheet, I thought my name was suppose to be on the top. She was right because even in the first grade, I signed up for the talent show, without even considering what I was going to do as a performance. I just knew that I wanted to be a part of it. I have always wanted to be involved with a variety of activities from school, to community service, and even sports.
All of those activities have not only taught me time management but more importantly life skills that I continue to carry with me. Those skills as well as the values that my family has instilled in me have taught me the importance of being a person of strong character. I was once told that true character is how you act when no one is looking. It defines who you are as a person as shown in the words of Helen Keller: "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." This is what I continually strive to live by.
Tell us about your platform.
While awaiting transplant, approximately 17 people die each day on that list. I have come to understand that needing a transplant does not just effect a certain population or age group. Organ and tissue donation encompasses all ages. A transplant can bring quality of life back to an individual and their family. Working with this platform for many years, I have identified a continuing need for ongoing education. If people would become familiar with this issue and the good that comes from it, so many more lives would be saved. Encouraging people to take part in this selfless act could truly be the greatest gift they could possibly give someone, and that is the gift of life.
