What makes you special and unique?
My short, pixey hair cut makes me unique. I have nothing to hide when I wear it natural. I feel free. In addition, I have been told that my smile has been a special attribute for me. You never know how a great and positive attitude and a simple smile can make the whole world a difference in someone's life.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Fame is vapor. Popularity is accidental. Riches takes wing. But the only thing that endures is character. Character will open many doors in your life, and it is the key to keep them open.

Name one thing you cannot live without.
I cannot live without music. As a child I battle a severe hearing loss. Having multiple surgeries, I wasn't motivated to connect to what interested me. And that was Music. It changed my life forever. Presently, I am a music teacher. I can truly say that music followed me even when I tried to run from it. I cannot live without music, because music is me!

What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned?
I should never turn my back on my family. They have always been there for me even when I was at my lowest point.

Who is your most valued role model and why?
My role model comes in a pair. My parents. They have this grace between them so powerful I can't explain. They are awesome for instilling in me the greatest tool of my life's survival. Everyday, I understand more and more what they taught me even when I wouldn't understand. I thank them for telling me to be a good follower in order to become a great leader. I know that when I take one step of effort toward doing something, God will take two more steps of effort for me to get there.

What was your most unexpected moment?
My most expected moment was my birthday this past year. My best friend took me to Mi Pueblo Authentic Mexican Restuarant. I was having a wonderful meal. Unexpectantly, a group of men dressed "in black" were clapping and singing an unfamiliar tune carrying a huge bowl of ice cream with chocolate swirls towards me. "Umm", I thought, as I aimed for the spoon. SMASH!!! A plate of icing was all over my face. I screamed a loud cry out. All eyes were on me in the restaurant. It was a hilarious moment for sure. Everyone there was in tears of laughter. I was a little embarrassed. I will never forget that night for as long as I live!

What is the best compliment you have ever recieved?
Before my great grandmother died in December 2006, she asked me to sing for her. She told me that my voice was a gift sent from heaven.

What is your secret wish?
I can't tell you. If I did, it wouldn't be a surprise anymore!

What was your most embarrassing moment?
There was a hole in my classroom floor. I had on a pair of high heels. I didn’t notice the hole in the floor at that particular moment, and my heel was caught in it. My students really enjoyed the scenery! Of course, they carried on in a non-stop bout of laughter! I have to admit it was very funny. Yes, it was quite embarrassing too!

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
My biggest guilty pleasure is eating "smooth and tasty" Jamoca Almond Fudge ice cream from Baskin Robbins!

What is your favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie is " The Jackson Five: An American Dream". This movie was an excellent interpretation of the lives of the Jacksons. The actors/actresses portraying each character were so believable. What I love most about this movie is that despite where you come from and your struggle, with a lot of dedication, commitment, and discipline could be the very key to humbly prepare you for Greatness in the end.

What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation?
I love to attend jazz, blues, or gospel performances. For relaxation, I adore going to the spa. Also, my grandmother has a way of calming me with her wisdom and hugs. For recreation, I enjoy fishing. That gives me peace of mind at times.

What would be your dream vacation or destination?
My dream vacation is a wonderful tour of Venice, Italy until reaching the center of Paris, France. Center, as in , shopping centers, galleries, fashion, museums, and historical views. In addition, I dream of a private beach (All Inclusive) wind surfing, petal biking, and water rafting on site in Montego Bay, Jamaica!

What do you like best about the state of Mississippi?
I love Mississippi because it is home to me! It never fails to know that the "bottom" is always the very thing to hold up the "top". That is what Mississippi does to the rest of the United States. I enjoy the big town influences with the small town feel. The people deliver genuine, southern hospitality. I, fortunately, was born, reared and am a product of Oxford, Mississippi, a small university environment of diversity, and cultural influences. My environment has made me a well-rounded person with some diverse experiences. I consider Mississippi "my south" because it is "my home".

Who am I?
I am Kimberly Nicole Morgan, born February 22, 1983 to Elzie and Valerie Morgan. I grew up with a severe hearing disability. This led me to shyness as a child that I still have trouble overcoming. Many people don’t really know that about me. I have never been a person to accept setbacks. I like to take chances to prove that challenges considered possible are very much possible. .

My dreams have been the same since I was seven years old (music, education, pageants, mentoring to the youth). I like to tell people to not always think of yourself and to help others before yourself. I love to mentor to children that can't seem to grasp "hope for tomorrow". I can identify with them because I was once in their shoes. I enjoy encouraging them by telling them that, "You can do anything, if you believe- REGARDLESS!” A belief is not a belief unless you can visualize it in your mind's eye that the reality of it can be or is possible. You first have to see yourself doing it. Set your goal. And go for the gold!! I am a softy for helping children and elders. I visit the nursing home every other day in Batesville, Mississippi called Beverly. My grandmother now lives there. It saddens me that a lot of people literally drop their family and never come back to visit them. I enjoy entertaining them and making them feel as if they have something to live for. In return, they give me hope, wisdom, and understanding about a lot of things. My grandmother nicknamed me OLD SOUL!

I love to cook and eat. I love attending church. I love to sing. I have a newfound love, which is teaching. Never in a million years would I have thought about teaching. Well, teaching found me. This year, I learned that teaching is a so rewarding in many ways. Maybe not monetarily, but children will look up to you like you are the greatest gift to them. It’s amazing. I can go on and on with that subject. But...

Life is beautiful because God gave it to me. I just want to be the best person that I can be. I am not perfect, but everyday, I strive toward perfection. I am what I am. I have struggled and rose above it all. I have overcome adversities. I have learned to push through pressure and to believe in myself when I am feeling alone. Most Of all , I have learned to give all myself to God. He will handle everything else for me.

Tell us about your platform.
My platform issue G.O.T.M.I.L.K.! (Golden Opportunity Toward Music Increasing Literacy in Kids), is a fifty-five minute per week after-school program of music instructions. Most children of low income, rural communities lack linguistic development, adaptation to their environment, basic child development, and overall school performance. G.O.T.M.I.L.K.! is a method that can use music in the teaching of reading to enhance motivation and the abilities of children because the subject have so many similarities. My attempt is the teach everyone to become proficient in reading, writing, and mathematics. I also aim students to become proficient in making and learning music.

I volunteer to help students with difficulties in other subject areas by incorporating music in after-school program. On a daily basis, I integrate music throughout the school day. Hopefully, the scoring of state testing will become a reflection of what the students have obtained.

I love this platform because music is what I love and teaching is what I do everyday. I put the two together and it is proven that the effects of music should be used as a tool to help in the learning of other subject areas... Just as simple as a kindergartener learning ABC'S. In a rhythmic song form, it is easier and more fun for the child to comprehend, as oppose to a non-musical call and response method. It would be quite boring and not as motivating.
