Singing, dancing, reading, shopping, playing golf, working sudoku puzzles, watching college football, hanging out with my sister, traveling, and cooking Back to Top What makes you special and unique? What makes me special and unique is I have three peculiar "beauty marks." I have a birthmark on my right arm in the shape of a diamond, a freckle on the end of my nose, and a gray mole on my left ankle. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? The best advice I have ever received is always to be humble and grateful for all of my blessings. I've always been told that God has a sense of humor, and the moment we take things for granted, He will always be there to remind us for whom we are really working. Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. One thing that I absolutely cannot live without is my cocoa butter Chap Stick. I always have a tube with me. I can go without my cell phone, laptop, and makeup, but not my Chap Stick. All a girl needs is a little mascara and moisturized lips. Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? The most valuable lesson I have ever learned is that "what goes around comes around." I was at my high school showchoir spring show dress rehearsal when I fussed at the other members for talking into their mics backstage during my solo rehearsal.(I was really mean) The next night during a quiet moment in the actual show, my microphone accidentally came on backstage and my voice broadcast LOUDLY across the auditorium. I felt so bad because I had done exactly what I got angry at everyone else for doing. I decided then and there to apply THE GOLDEN RULE to all situations Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? My most valued role model is my mother. She is a single mom and a high school English teacher. She always supports my little sister and me in everything we do. She pushes us to be the best we can be and never lets us give up. My mother is selfless. She may not always give my sister and me what we "want" but always gets us what we "need." I hope one day to be a great mother and strong woman just like her. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? My most unexpected moment was two years ago when I found out that I had to assume the position of Miss Grenada County after Kristian Dambrino was crowned Miss Mississippi. It was a short time after the state pageant, and I guess I hadn't really thought about the first alternate assuming the position if the original title holder won the state pageant. I was on my way back from a canoe trip when I called my mother who informed me that I was to be crowned in just a few days. I have never felt so glamorous without my makeup on, with two days worth of river water in my hair, and bug spray as perfume! Back to Top What is your workout routine? I do not have a set workout routine. I eat right and workout regularly. I love to walk and run, and an ab workout before bed is a must! Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? My biggest accomplishment to date is actually getting to be in the Miss Mississippi Pageant! I had to compete 7 times over the last three years to make it. I have learned that things that you really want take hard work and perseverance. Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever recieved? Most people would not consider being told that they are stubborn to be a compliment, but I do. On many occasions I have been called stubborn when I haven't given in easily to pressure. I pick my battles wisely, and am not ashamed to admit when I am wrong; however, I feel that my persistence often pays off. Back to Top What is your secret wish? My secret wish is to spend the night in Cinderella's Castle at Disney World. I've been to Disney World twice, and I've asked Cinderella both times if I could stay overnight in her castle...NO LUCK! I'm 21 years old, and I get more excited about Disney than most 5-year-olds. Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? I love to play golf even though I'm not very good at it. I have always thought it so cool how the golfers hop out of their golf carts and let them roll to a stop. One day, I was on the 9th hole right beside the clubhouse when I decided to "step out" of the golf cart just as I had seen the other golfers do. Unfortunately, I was not as coordinated as I thought I was! I fell on my face right in front of everyone. All I could do was stand up, wave at the laughing golfers, and walk to my golf ball. Since that time I have left the fancy golf cart exits to the professionals. Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? My biggest guilty pleasure is eating mint chocolate chip ice cream and watching "Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe" on the weekends. I know that show sounds a little strange, but it is so interesting!! Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is the one and only STEEL MAGNOLIAS! I have seen it numerous times and it still makes me laugh and cry. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? As a college student, all three of these items are "luxuries" that I seldom experience!(ha!) However, when I do get to indulge myself, I have fun by bowling and singing karaoke with my friends. My favorite way to relax is to lounge around on the couch and watch the Discovery Channel. My favorite recreational activities include playing Phase 10, going to the pool, and hiking. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? My dream vacation would be to visit Scotland and Ireland. I am fascinated by the cultures and the history of these countries. I've been told that some of my ancestors are Scottish; therefore, it would be really neat to visit that country. Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? What I like best about the state of Mississippi is the people. We have such a diverse population! The people of Mississippi are also some of the friendliest and giving people in the world. I'm proud to be a Mississippian. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? In ten years I hope to be a successful pharmaceutical sales representative. I also hope be married and have a family of my own. Of course, being a former Miss Mississippi would be nice too!! Back to Top Who am I? My name is Angela Michelle Bailey and I have the honor of representing my hometown as Miss Grenada County this year at the Miss Mississippi Pageant. I attend Delta State University where I am a junior Biology Education Major. At DSU I am a member of the Kappa Epsilon chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity where I serve as the local philanthropy chair. When I am not in class or hanging out with my sorority sisters, I am a Delta Diplomat. Anytime you need a tour of DSU give me a call! On the weekends I work as a pharmacy technician at Grenada Lake Medical Center. My mother, Rhonda, and my little sister, Stephanie, hold the fort down at home while I am at school during the week. I have two small dogs. Hobie is a miniature poodle, and Cody is a Peek-a-Poo.
I'm very fun loving and always try to keep a positive attitude towards life. When I graduate college I want to pursue a career in pharmaceutical sales. Eventually, I would like to teach high school Biology. Of course like most little girls, I had fantasies of one day becoming famous. That would still be nice, but I will be perfectly content to be a loving wife, a good mother, and a successful businesswoman.
Tell us about your platform.
I have created a goal-building activity entitled "Project Grow." It parallels the growth of a plant to the growth of a goal. I have modified the activity to work for different age groups from kindergarten to middle school. I believe it is never too early to teach children the importance of setting and attaining goals.
