What makes you special and unique?
I had the distinction of being the 50th Miss Hinds Community College and working with the legendary Mrs. Anna Bee in 2006. Now, I am the first to serve as Miss Flowood, while competing in the 50th anniversary pageant of the Miss Mississippi scholarship program.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Proverbs 19:20-21 tells us, "Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’S purpose that prevails."

Name one thing you cannot live without.
I can’t live without my iPod. With my iTunes playing, I am able to focus on what I need to get done in the gym. Not only that, it adds a little flavor to my exercise routine! I let the sweet sound of some of my favorite singers ease my mind, while I burn off that fat! I can even stay informed on current events by listening to Podcasts aired by national news stations.

What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned?
My father is an avid duck hunter, collecting nearly two hundred duck decoys that are spread through out our house, against my mother's will. After procrastinating on my senior project and staying up all night to meet a deadline, my dad reminded me to always "Keep my ducks in a row!" By practicing this advice, I am always prepared.

Who is your most valued role model and why?
Mike Moore is my most valued role model because of his perseverance in fighting the tobacco industry in order to win a huge settlement for the state of Mississippi. By forming organizations to properly delegate funds to promote wellness among our state's youthful populace, Mike Moore served as a living example that taking action and encouraging others to take action can make a true difference in the community. When the demands of the office of Attorney General became taxing on his family life, Moore left the political forefront to focus on his family and private law practice. Even now when contacted to assist with wellness issues, Mike Moore passionately and promptly responds as evidenced when I contacted him to request a letter of support for the Cigarette Litter Prevention campaign on my college campus.

What was your most unexpected moment?
While presiding over a senate meeting for my school’s Student Government, the community service chairperson asked to take the podium. Uncertain about what she was going to share, I hesitantly allowed her to address the senate. She announced that I had been selected as the Most Distinguished Chapter Member in the southern region for Phi Theta Kappa, a distinguished honor society. I certainly was caught off guard when I received the glass statue of achievement and the opportunity to compete for the national title.

What is your workout routine?
I am a workout fanatic! My workout routine consists of a weekly regimen of cardiovascular exercise for at least thirty minutes each day, lifting weights to increase lean muscle mass Monday through Friday, and attending at least two aerobics classes weekly. When I'm feeling really brave, I run to and from the gym.

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?
I consider my biggest accomplishment to be delivering my self-written speech on the youth of America to over 4,000 high school students on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, after having won the Mississippi Oratory Championship.

What is the best compliment you have ever recieved?
While lobbying at the legislature in support of mid-level funding for Mississippi's Community Colleges, I faced difficult questions from prominent leaders of our state. Afterwards, the sponsor commented on my ability to handle myself with grace under pressure, never appearing nervous nor hesitant to express my opinion.

What is your secret wish?
My secret wish is to possess the charitable nature of Oprah Winfrey, the passion of Mike Moore, the tenacity of Condoleezza Rice, the wisdom of Warren Buffet, and the style of Jackie Onassis.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
During my break between classes in the seventh grade, I was strutting through the hallways trying to impress my crush, when out of no where popped up a boy strolling along with a rolling book bag. That book sack happened to roll right up underneath my feet, causing me to fly through air and hit the ground in front of the boy’s bathroom. While I was immediately mortified, my crush did come pick me up off the ground and made sure I was feeling alright. Needless to say, I certainly pay attention to where I am going and what objects could possibly impede my ability to get there without taking something, including myself, out!

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
I love Muscle Chow! This treat includes mixing 2 scoops of chocolate whey protein powder, 2 cups of chunky no sugar added peanut butter, and ½ cup of Splenda. Mix in a big bowl, roll into walnut-sized bites, and freeze for two hours before serving! You also may want to add bananas and flaxseed for additional energy.

What is your favorite movie and why?
It's hard to pin down one favorite movie, because I find something special about every movie I watch. However, I do tend to enjoy romantic comedy the most because I am able to learn from the mistakes the characters make, while laughing at their antics.

What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation?
One word encompasses all three, and that is exercise! For fun, I take Pilates classes, kick box, and run. To relax, I go to yoga every Saturday and use yoga postures and breathing exercises during my week at school and work. My recreational activities include cheerleading, choreographing dance routines, and attempting to play tennis!

What would be your dream vacation or destination?
It may sound cliché, but my dream destination is competing on the Miss America stage as Miss Mississippi.

What do you like best about the state of Mississippi?
As stated in the Mississippi, Believe It campaign, "our generosity has won out over every other state in the nation." Mississippi is responsible for giving more per capita, compared to income, than any other state! That’s right, Mississippi ranks first in making charitable donations, and what could be better than that?!

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
By the age of thirty, I see myself working for the district attorney’s office in Jackson as a special prosecutor, gaining experience so that I may accomplish my goal of hosting a legal analysis program on CNN News. I also imagine that I will be married and learning the honorable job of being a mother.

Who am I?
I am dedicated, passionate, and scheduled in everything that I do, from being President of the Associated Student Government and cheerleading captain at Hinds Community College, to my work teaching children the importance of health education and wellness. I believe that impossibilities in my life are just invitations to seek improvement. I am never satisfied with mediocrity. Consequently, I strive daily to find positive solutions to issues identified within my surroundings.

The nation we live in is full of opportunities, but individuals must seek them out. Personally, I feel blessed to have a quality education courtesy of taxpayer dollars and access to information that enhances learning via television or internet access. On top of these perks, I enjoy the right to voice opinions on any topic and the freedom to set and achieve personal goals or impact the future of our nation or local community in whatever way I identify as positive or effective.

American society can only benefit from instilling patriotism and a propensity towards service and wellness within its youthful population. As Miss Flowood 2007, I look forward to providing ample chances for youth to serve and feel the satisfaction of knowing that efforts expended towards helping others and improving their personal health habits are worthy.

Tell us about your platform.
Being the daughter of a newly diagnosed diabetic, I have become increasingly aware of the importance of teaching growing children the basics of developing appropriate physical and mental health habits at an early age. Today’s American youth are growing up in an environment that is centered around the fast food and junk food industries, and tend to exhibit a far more sedentary lifestyle than did youth in years past. Without being educated on proper health choices, our current youthful population faces a hard road ahead of health problems and possible early death.

It is a fact that supporting educational programs that give young people knowledge about health related issues will ultimately yield a healthier, happier populace for our nation. I am an advocate for promoting proper health habits in youth, including education about the right foods to consume, encouraging active exercise and proper rest, and informing young people about a variety of health issues so they will choose to exhibit a healthy lifestyle.
