Back to Top What makes you special and unique? As a young girl, I developed a large vocabulary more rapidly than most children of my age, and therefore, had a great inclination to speak and ask questions. Because of my intuitive nature and knack for language at such an early age, my Papa began to call me Miss America as a nick name. Now I can easily say that I was the youngest person to ever be given the title. Back to Top What is the best advice you have ever received? The best advice I have ever received is to always follow my dreams. I am now attending a school that encourages students to choose careers that they love so that they can wake up for work every Monday morning saying "Thank God it's Monday!" Back to Top Name one thing you cannot live without. I can not live without my family. They have always supported me in my every endeavor and I do not know what I would do without them. Back to Top What's the most valuable lesson you've ever learned? The most valuable lesson I have ever learned is that failure only makes you stronger. The entertainment business is a competitive industry in which people are often cut from auditions and receive rejection letters for jobs. However, those who remember the saying "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" are the ones that have successful careers. Back to Top Who is your most valued role model and why? My most valued role model is past American Idol Carrie Underwood. She is a small town Oklahoma girl who has not compromised her high morals and values for fame and fortune. Back to Top What was your most unexpected moment? My most unexpected moment was being accepted into the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. With this acceptance I was given the opportunity to live in "The Big Apple" for two months one summer and was even chosen to model for a costume catalogue called "Art Stone" Back to Top What is your workout routine? I take dance classes every day and go to the gym to do cardio, endurance, and strengthening exercises every other day. Back to Top What has been your biggest accomplishment to date? My biggest accomplishment to date was winning Mississippi's Junior Miss Program and getting into the Top 8 Nationally. Back to Top What is the best compliment you have ever recieved? The best compliment I have ever received is that I am as beautiful on the inside as I am on the outside. Back to Top What is your secret wish? Growing up with the last name Fox has definitely kept my life interesting and is also the source of my secret wish. I have always wanted to go into broadcasting, therefore, my secret wish is to be Fox on Fox. Back to Top What was your most embarrassing moment? My most embarrassing moment happened while I was competing in Mississippi's Junior Miss Program. I nailed my on stage interview question and proceeded to walk off stage instead of joining the other contestants. Laughing, I was pushed back on stage, and the audience began to laugh with me. Back to Top What is your biggest guilty pleasure? My biggest guilty pleasure is eating Peanut Butter by the spoon-full. Back to Top What is your favorite movie and why? My favorite movie is "The Sound of Music". I absolutely love Julie Andrews as an actress and a singer, and the message that good things can happen even during difficult times is one that every person should remember. Back to Top What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation? I enjoy going to dinner and a movie with my friends and sometimes playing games such as Scene It and Catch Phrase. I love to curl up on the couch on a rainy day and read a good book or watch old movies. I also enjoy swimming, boating, and surfing during the summer and spending time with my family. Back to Top What would be your dream vacation or destination? My dream vacation would be to explore a beautiful rain forest and swim in the cascades of a waterfall. Back to Top What do you like best about the state of Mississippi? My favorite part about the state of Mississippi is the true Southern hospitality and great food. Back to Top Where do you see yourself in ten years? In ten years, I see myself beginning to wind down a career in the entertainment business and starting a family. Back to Top Who am I? Some day, when a person is not looking, his dream will find him. When I was eight years old, I began taking dance classes at La Studio Academy of Dance. Like most children at that age, I went to my dance classes one to two days a week, while also participating in an infinite amount of other activities. As I continued to grow, so did my love for dance and all of the opportunities that it had to offer me. I decided to become more focused on my true passion, dance, foregoing my other extracurricular interests. Although I was still rather young, I began to dream of dancing on Broadway and seeing my name in the bright lights of New York City. I never imagined that one day I would get the actual opportunity to further my training by spending the summer living in the heart of "The Big Apple" at the Joffrey Ballet School. "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others." (1 Peter 4:10). When I was thirteen years old, I began assistant teaching at La Studio Academy of Dance, practically living there. Little did I know that teaching dance would be both a wonderful opportunity, but also one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, shaping me into the person I am today. Discovering teachers have an enormous amount of responsibilities and are expected to be confident, reliable role models for their students made me begin to think back to all of the wonderful teachers I have ever had in my life. Where would I be without their willingness to share their knowledge and exhibit their kindness to me when I was a young girl? Thinking about all of my wonderful instructors allowed me to see that God had given me the ability to teach. Knowing any gift given by God is precious, I set out to be the best teacher I could be, while trying to remember what qualities I thought embodied a good educator when I was a child. I found myself trying my hardest and doing my best when I knew I was being watched by the little girls at the dance studio, who considered me their role model. Because of their innocent curiosity, I was constantly bombarded with the questions they could no longer hold back. I loved looking at their tiny, excited faces when I gave them my answers. "Miss Virginia, what kind of car do you drive? Where do you go to school? Do you have a boyfriend?" I liked the way it felt to be looked up to, and I discovered that teaching was bringing out the best in me. Looking at their angelic faces made me want to not only be my best self in dance, but also in every other aspect of my life. Being their mentor gave me a different appreciation for every instructor I have ever had, from my parents to my Sunday school teachers. They have truly been a crucial part of shaping me into the person I am today. Sometimes, one must take the time to stop and listen to what God has in store. God has not only given me the talent to dance, but He has also given me a venue in which to share my love for dance and my love for Him. Because He has given me such precious gifts, He expects me to develop those gifts in every way possible. When I was sixteen years old, I took the time to listen to His calling for my life, and realized that He wanted me to gather my courage and set out in a new direction. I left home at this young age to follow my dreams at the Alabama School of Fine Arts High School in Birmingham, Alabama. This new atmosphere continued to shape my life in the direction I believe God has planned for me. After high school, I continued to pursue a performance career and now attend Oklahoma City University where I am a Dance Performance Major. I have always loved to perform and when I am on stage my deepest goals and dreams come alive.
I love the feeling of transforming words and emotions into movement. When I am dancing, every thought, every fear, and every dream is portrayed through my movement. I tend to be the most satisfied when I am captivating an audience or simply working to master a difficult step with only God as my witness. I can not imagine pursuing any other career, because dancing has always been such a passion of mine. I aspire to dance on Broadway one day and eventually share my love for dance with other people by becoming a dance teacher. I love to see the looks on the faces of the little children I teach when I give them a correction or tell them that they are doing a good job. I think it is important that children have dreams in life to follow, and I want to help cultivate those dreams.
Tell us about your platform. For example, people do not realize that eating a minimal one hundred extra calories a day can cause a person to gain ten extra pounds a ear. In ten years, that person could gain up to one hundred pounds. That is a lot of extra weight that can easily be avoided with the proper diet and exercise. The problem is that so many people cringe when they hear the words diet and exercise. Oftentimes, the most a person needs to be do is simply cut one hundred calories out of his or her diet and take one thousand more steps a day.
I love to eat and have always been a big eater. When I was young, my parents often made jokes about how much I ate; however, I have always balanced my eating habits with the proper amount of exercise and therefore, have never had a weight problem. It is very easy to live an unhealthy life, but it is just as easy to live a healthy one. People need to be educated on how to live healthily, and often need a little help getting started. Through my platform, I believe I can do just that.
